Ueckermünde has got Germany's northernmost seaport. The river Uecker rising in the Uckermark and flowing into the Szczecin Lagoon not far behind the old part of Ueckermünde, flows through the old part of town and makes the town port there. Life in the town harbour used to be characterised mainly by mooring cargo barges and fishing trawlers but nowadays it is above all tourists, who use it. Starting from the town harbour you can go on cruises to the Szczecin Lagoon, the Isle of Usedom or to neighbouring Poland. Modern boats offering duty-free goods and pleasure boats are available. Whether two-hour pleasure trips or all-day trips with duty-free shopping - everything is possible. The town harbour has got berths for passenger ships as well as for sailing yachts and motor yachts. Therefore water-sports enthusiasts can moor their boats directly in the town centre.
Access to the port of Ueckermünde
When steering for Ueckermünde you branch off the fairway through the Little Lagoon (Kleines Haff) at 183 degrees being level with the light-buoy H/4. 3.7 sea miles later you reach the UE light-buoy. After another 0.8 sea miles the light-buoy UE 3 signalled "Blz gn 4 s" and a green top sign appear. At this level the fairway branches off to the Berndshofer Industriehafen. From this light-buoy on you steer 245 degrees to the mouth of the Uecker river.
"The sign "encounter prohibited" on the northern mole of Ueckermünde is floodlighted. The light intensity of the Ueckermünde beacon in the fairway area of the mole entry is reduced." (Announcement for Sailors 50/2002).
Yachts putting in at Ueckermünde outside the fairway definitely have to observe fishing equipment next to the fairway.
A lighthouse, boundary railings coloured in red and green on the moles and mole heads and reflecting boundary posts alongside the fairway help with orientation even at night. During the day sports boat drivers have to make sure that the narrow channel section at the head of the Uecker is free from commercial ships. At night the river can only be passed with a searchlight.
The town harbour is situated 1.5 sea miles upstream on both sides of the Uecker river. When putting in at starboard hand, the first section of the jetty is reserved for commercial shipping. Moreover that you will find there the border crossing-point with customs and the German Border Police. All other sections are freely accessible for mooring and the harbour-master will allocate a guest berth to you.
