St Mary's Church

Tracing the history of St Mary's

St Mary's Church

St Mary's steeple is visible from afar, already miles before you enter our town. St Mary's Church has been in this place since 16th March, 1766.
Some of the councillors' chairs of a preceding building survived the centuries dating back to the year 1593. Coats of arms and house signs of the councillors give us an idea of their tasks.
Worth seeing in the church are three chandeliers originating from the years between 1648 and 1703.
Several large oil-paintings depict personalities such as Luther and Calvin or Ravenstein and Clausius. The oldest painting is from 1684 and shows pastor Hograewius.
And the font as well dates back to the 17th century. The beautiful altar was renovated in 1961.
The church steeple was constructed anew in 1866 and rehabilitated a few years ago. Three bells toll in it today.

Come and visit St Mary's Church, attend a service or one of the frequent concerts, that take place here above all in the summertime.
